Safe & Secure—for Your Peace of Mind
Alzheimer’s and dementia patients receive expert and compassionate care at Wesley Gardens Nursing Home.
Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia requires compassion, patience and the experience to understand how patients are affected and how they may be assisted.
We are proud to provide Rochester’s most kindhearted professionals, expertly trained in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Our doctors recognize non-verbal cues and ask effective questions; our chefs prepare foods that are easy to eat; our nurses make daily life easier and more enjoyable by relieving fears, assuaging anxiety providing helpful reminding cues.
We also carefully monitor your loved one to learn what stimulates specific emotions and behaviors and adjust routines or surroundings accordingly. If a breeze causes agitation, the window will be kept closed. If an old song increases happiness or tranquility, the staff will play it frequently.
Wesley Gardens provides enriching, fulfilling memory care activities for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients.
This life-enhancing recreation promotes independence and self-esteem, and may help slow or prevent memory decline. We know that Alzheimer’s and dementia may affect each person differently, so we pay close attention to unique needs, preferences and abilities and tailor our activities accordingly.
Playing games and solving puzzles keep the mind active; simple tasks and duties foster a sense of accomplishment; visits from nurses, peer residents and visiting pets encourage socialization and prevent withdrawal. Our staff recognizes, too, the importance of reminiscing and engages our residents in activities to recall happy memories—conversations about days gone by, looking through old photos, listening to nostalgic music.
We routinely take able residents on outings to stimulate the senses, and our recreation department plans exercises and activities to keep the mind and body communicating.
Residents in the Alzheimer’s and dementia memory care program also enjoy all the advantages of Wesley Gardens’ skilled nursing environment, including on-site doctors, Medicaid acceptance, affordable long-term care, assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), and much more.
Alzheimer’s and dementia patients are prone to wander.
These patients don’t have the ability to recognize hazards or fend for themselves, which makes this wandering especially dangerous. To protect and ensure the safety of our residents, Wesley Gardens has invested in a state-of-the-art surveillance and pre-alert system. WanderGuard® automatically alerts our staff if a resident approaches an off-limits area, allowing us to gently guide your loved one to a safer location before any harm is done.
Wesley Gardens also heightens your loved one’s safety with video cameras in common areas such as hallways and dining rooms. This surveillance allows us to keep an eye on all residents and provides a detailed report of all that is happening in our facility.
We’ve designed our memory care unit specially and specifically to meet the needs of patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The 6th floor of Wesley Gardens features calming and tranquil artwork and ample sunshine. The brightly lit hallways and rooms benefit those with reduced vision. The absence of locks increases residents’ safety. The camaraderie fostered between residents helps ward off depression.
We offer a large number of private rooms for our Alzheimer’s and dementia care residents. These bright and spacious rooms are equipped with many amenities to ensure our patients’ comfort, including:
- Private half bathroom
- Central AC
- In-room temperature control
- Bed, Dresser, and Nightstand
