Specialized Care from Knowledgeable Staff
Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia requires compassion, patience and a thorough understanding of how the patient can be affected and assisted. Wesley Gardens Nursing Home is proud to provide Rochester’s most kindhearted professionals trained in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. With their knowledge and warmth, doctors are able to recognize non-verbal cues and ask effective questions; chefs know how to prepare foods that are easy to eat; and nurses make daily life easier by speaking reassuring words, combating sleeplessness, relieving fears and much more.
The caring staff at Wesley Gardens Nursing Home goes extra lengths to provide a Rochester environment where your loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia can feel secure. We’ll lessen anxiety and encourage your loved one’s understanding by providing kind words, sincere interest, gentle touch and reminding cues. These cues can include: calendars, a label on the bathroom, clothes laid out for dressing, or whatever your loved one needs.
Wesley Gardens’ compassionate staff will also intentionally monitor your loved one to learn what stimulates specific emotions and behaviors, and adjust routines or surroundings accordingly. If a breeze causes agitation, your loved one’s window will be kept closed. If an old song increases happiness or tranquility, the staff will play that tune regularly. Wesley Gardens Nursing Home is dedicated to comforting your loved one who has Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia, and providing feelings of safety and security.
Safe From Wandering
Some people with Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia are prone to wander, and without the ability to recognize hazards or fend for oneself, this can be dangerous; therefore, Wesley Gardens Nursing Home is equipped with WanderGuard—a system specially designed to keep your loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia safe. Should your loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia near an elevator or specially marked door, WanderGuard will automatically summon Wesley’s staff.
WanderGuard’s pre-alert system will warn Wesley’s nurses before your loved one ever steps onto the elevator or grabs hold of the doorknob. This allows Wesley’s compassionate professionals to gently guide your loved one to a safer location prior to any significant wandering.
Wesley Gardens Nursing Home also heightens your loved one’s safety with video cameras. These cameras in common areas, such as hallways and dining rooms, can track wandering residents and provide a detailed report on all that is happening in our Rochester nursing home. Skilled Nursing Care residents in the Alzheimer’s and dementia memory care program enjoy all the advantages of Wesley Gardens’ skilled nursing environment. This includes on-site doctors, Medicaid acceptance, affordable long term care, assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) and much more.
Memory Care Activities
At Wesley Gardens Nursing Home your loved one can participate in enriching Alzheimer’s and dementia memory care activities. This life-enhancing recreation promotes independence and self-esteem, and can help slow or prevent memory decline. Fun activities such as playing games and solving puzzles keep the mind active; simple tasks and hobbies can make your loved one feel valued and useful; and friendly nurses, peer residents and visiting pets can encourage socialization and prevent withdrawal and depression. Our Alzheimer’s and dementia care unit regularly takes able residents on outings to stimulate the senses; and our recreation department plans exercises and activities to keep the mind and body communicating. We encourage residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia to continue hobbies if they are able and even start new ones within their range of ability.
The attentive staff at Wesley Gardens Nursing Home will also provide memory care by reminiscing with your loved one. Through conversations about days gone by, old photographs and nostalgic tunes, your loved one will recall happy times and enjoy fond memories once again. Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia affect each person differently, so we will cater to your loved one as an individual. We pay focused attention to unique needs, preferences and abilities.
